Diploma of Conveyancing Course Overview
The Diploma of Conveyancing is the new minimum requirement to practice. The course can be completed by distance learning, and Government funding is available in some instances.

To attain a Diploma of Conveyancing 13 units must be achieved:
- Conveyancing Firms
- Law Firms
- Property Departments of Financial Institutions
- Larger Companies
- Government Departments
9 core units plus
2 sectoral units plus
2 elective units.

BSBLEG415A Apply the principles of contract law.
FNSACC403B Make decisions in a legal context
FNSCNV501A Take instructions in relation to a transaction
FNSCNV502A Read and interpret a legal document and provide advice
FNSCNV503A Analyse and interpret legal requirements for a transaction
FNSCNV504A Prepare legal documents
FNSCNV505A Finalise the conveyancing transaction
FNSCNV506A Establish and manage a trust account
FNSINC401A Apply principles of professional practice to work in the financial services industry
If your goal is to be an independent Conveyancing contractor then you will need to complete the following two sectoral units to be licensed with the Business Licensing Authority (see below):
FNSCNV601A Identify and conduct searches
FNSORG601A Negotiate to achieve goals & manage disputes
In October 2006 the Parliament of Victoria passed the Conveyancers Act 2006. This established a new system of regulation and licensing for non-lawyer Conveyancers in Victoria. Under the Act, a person is not permitted to carry on a conveyancing business in Victoria without a Conveyancer’s Licence from the Business Licensing Authority or unless the person is an Australian Legal Practitioner for the purposes of Victoria’s Legal Profession Act 2004.
